Balloonatic in Russia - The Whirlwind Tour

Tim Thurmond

Hi everyone! Well, another week has passed and boy what a week it was. This journal entry will be different than the others. The reason for this change is this week has been real busy and difficult. For example, one day I worked from 9 in the morning to 9:30 at night doing program after program and even a seminar series. So this is an update in what type of events that are going on and how I am doing. Next week I will go back to usual format.

Last Wednesday I had three shows. The first was for a second grade class in the public school. This is the second time I have been to that school. Both times it has gone very well. I also did two shows at what the Russians call family centers. I am still trying to figure out how to compare them to what we have in the U.S.A. My body is starting to get more warn out. I am feeling tired all the time, even though I am sleeping 9+ hours a night. I am beginning to feel stretched and my senses are beginning to dull.

This has been a hard week for me. Every possible time slot is full, which is good. I am glad I am keeping busy but my body is not doing good. Today (Saturday) I had to end one program early and cancel another one because I feel like I am about to pass out. My throat is sore and today I tried to eat breakfast but I just couldnít. Unless the Lord gives me some energy I donít know if I will be able to finish the next couple of weeks strong. So thatís one thing that you can pray for. I need energy and I need clearness of mind. Today I forgot a part of a story that I have told many times.

I am feeling more and more like a broken vessel, but the Lord keeps using me. Until His work is done, mine is not. The Lord has given me some unique opportunities this week. The first one was last Friday. I literally had a "captive audience". I went to a teen boy jail. They had about 2-3 hundred teens sitting for this program. I have never fully under stood the term talking to a brick wall until that day. When I came in they were so quiet that I did not even know they were in there until I turned and there were all these eyes just staring. I donít get stage fright but I would be amazed if any one out there would not be a little worried when all you see are bald heads on teens who could care less you there and guards with guns. Those guards with guns are standing between you and this crowd that you know all have done pretty bad things. Well, originally I was suppose to do half of a two hour program with the drama group doing the other half. But I notice something while I was setting up they are not there. For some reason they did not show up. Every thing went well and I escaped with out a scratch and the teens had some fun. Best of all they heard the whole story of Christ and his love for them.

The other thing that was pretty cool this week is I did a three-day seminar. This was a part of the original plan for me coming over here because I know I can not reach their children as well as another Russian. The conference went well and I think they are going to continue to get better and reach kids in places I can only dream of. This brings up something. I am going to keep them updated with balloon stories that are based on the Bible or have a moral theme. If you have any stories that would still make sense even to another culture then you can e-mail me at no1balloonatic@yahoo.com.

This week has been good but hard. But I am not here for a vacation so I have no complaints.

This is all I am going to write to day. I hope the last post encouraged you. The next will probably be longer but as I still am feeling very sick and woozy I will stop here for now.

Prayers:
Please pray for energy a healthy body and open hearts. Also, I will be changing apartments in a couple of days. The place that I am staying in now will be having some professor who will be teaching at the cultural center for a couple of weeks staying with them. I will stay with one of the missionaries I am working with. She will be coming back to Tyumen middle of the week. So pray that the transition goes well and that maybe I will get more rest at the different location. Also this week I have had some problems with my interpreter. I will be getting a new one on Monday so pray that the next two interpreters work well.

Final thought:
Though my body is weak and my mind is tired I am here for a purpose and by Gods power and wisdom I will fulfill my service to Him.
